Police Mountain Bike Unit

For approximately 20 years, the Boyne City Police Department has utilized mountain bikes for patrolling during the summer months.  The bike unit has proven valuable by allowing officers to patrol more easily in congested areas, remain visible during highly attended events throughout the summer, and make officers more approachable to residents and visitors alike.  In addition to visibility patrols in our downtown and neighborhoods, they are also used for traffic enforcement.  We also utilize our bikes to patrol the miles of paved and singletrack mountain bike trails within the City.  Currently, we have 5 officers trained and certified in mountain bike patrol.  Our bike fleet consists of five traditional police mountain bikes and two police electric mountain bikes.  The e-bikes are equipped with pedal assist technology allowing officers to cover a larger area while providing the ability to respond to calls for service.  All BCPD bikes were purchased with donations from the Classic Instruments Annual Open House and Car Show held each August.
